Things have gotten pretty dire in the galaxy of Helldivers 2 right now, thanks to the events of recent Major Orders. The Meridia Singularity is now being directed towards Super Earth, and we don’t know how to stop it. Helldivers just went through several terrifying battles with new, mutated strains of Terminids, and to make matters worse, the Automatons are striking back on the northwestern front.
The newest Major Order asks Helldivers to defend one of two precious resources from those damned Automatons: either the MD-8 Gas Mines, which sound like they could be really handy on the battlefield, or “the moderately feeble young adults on Julheim.”

The Automatons have launched a brazen attack, underhandedly capitalizing on the ongoing Terminid and Illuminate offensives to further their despotic schemes. Intercepted communications indicate the enemy has two ultimate targets. But our Federation only has the resources to save one.
The last few weeks have been a high point in the Helldivers 2 narrative so far. The Galaxy Map shows a meter as the Iluminate gain Dark Fluids to speed the Singularity towards Super Earth. Scientists discovered that the Gloom, a thick blanket of spores over Terminid space, had pumped those bugs full of bountiful space oil, so Helldivers rallied to venture into a new frontier of infested planets. Fighting Terminids in urban spaces with Predator Stalkers and spore burst troops was a truly harrowing experience, but the Gloom has now thickened and we are locked back out.
Now, with these new circumstances in place, we’ll have to see whether players’ good nature wins out against their desire to try out the new gas weapon. Mines are not a popular stratagem among the fanbase, as they’re so prone to friendly fire, but gas weapons have proven effective against Terminid swarms. Right now, Super Earth holds both planets, but soon they’ll be under attack by the Automatons. Only time will tell what the thought leaders and philosophers in the Helldivers 2 community choose to do.
