Just a few months after CD Projekt Red announced it was done updating Cyberpunk 2077, the studio is readying yet another Cyberpunk 2077 update. The details of the patch will be shared during a special live stream on Dec. 10.
While we don’t yet know what exactly Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2 will include, CD Projekt Red global community director Marcin Momot was explicit about PlayStation 5 Pro support and new game plus not being in the cards. If replies to the update announcement are any indication, these are two of the most requested features for the four-year-old game, so it should be interesting to see what CD Projekt Red prioritized instead.
This news came as a shock to many. CD Projekt Red previously treated Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 as its last major update — Updates 2.11 and 2.12 focused mostly on bug fixes and polishing — and the company’s Q1 2024 earnings report noted everyone on the development team had moved on to other projects as of April 30.
Cyberpunk 2077 launched in 2020 as a broken mess. CD Projekt Red, however, significantly improved the experience through patches, updates, and the Phantom Liberty expansion. Today, the game arguably stands as a worthy successor to the legacy and community goodwill the Polish studio built up with its Witcher franchise. A sequel, codenamed Project Orion, is currently in development despite deep cuts to the CD Projekt Red workforce in 2023.
“To meet our own high expectations and ambitions to create the best role-playing games, we not only want to have the best people but also the right teams,” CEO Adam Kiciński said at the time. “What we mean by that is having teams that are built around our projects’ needs; teams that are more agile and more effective. At this point in time, we’re certain that for CD Projekt Red to grow, we need to be consistent in implementing that approach.”
